俄亥俄州立大學東亞語文系名譽教授；著有《展出過去：後社會主義中國的歷史記憶與博物館政治》（Exhibiting the Past: Historical Memory and the Politics of Museums in Postsocialist China，暫譯）和《現代中國文學中的自我問題：胡風與路翎》（The Problematic of Self in Modern Chinese Literature: Hu Feng and Lu Ling，暫譯）；曾任《現代中國文學與文化》（Modern Chinese Literature and Culture）期刊編輯。二〇〇四、二〇〇九年曾來臺，先後為中央研究院中國文哲研究所特約訪問學人，以及國立中興大學訪問學人。
