獲多項榮譽肯定的作家及廣播主持人。受過嚴格的科學教育，是倫敦大學的物理學學士，以及加州理工學院的天文物理學碩士。目前為《新科學人》雜誌的宇宙學顧問。
馬克斯．尚恩之前曾經出版過三本暢銷科普著作，包括：The Universe Next Door : The Making of Tomorrow's Science（2003）、The Magic Furnace: The Search for the Origins of Atoms（2001）、Afterglow of Creation: From the Fireball to the Discovery of Cosmic Ripples（1996）。
