曾任派駐在日內瓦的世界貿易組織之大使，也在白宮國家安全局和國會裡任職過。之前是《蒙大拿季刊》（Montana Quarterly）的歷史線記者、蒙大拿大學的副教授。著作有《地獄之火：一九一七年北巴特礦產公司的災難》（暫譯，原書名 Fire and Brimstone: The North Butte Mining Disaster of 1917）、《最後的防線：葛林那爾奮勇拯救水牛群與美國新西部的誕生》（暫譯，原書名Last Stand: George Bird Grinnell, the Battle to Save the Buffalo, and the Birth of the New West）。作者的家鄉位於蒙大拿。
